Spotlight on Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas is enjoying a truly incredible 2017 PGA TOUR season and we've been fortunate enough to catch up with him, his father and his grandfather along the way as he has started dining at the very top table of the game.

Justin's victory in the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoff series, the Dell Technologies Championship, was his fifth of the current PGA TOUR season and a win that has seen him join a very exclusive club. Since 1960 only three other players under the age of 25 have won five times in one PGA TOUR season (Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth) and now Justin is the fourth.

What makes Justin Thomas' achievement all the more impressive is that all five of his wins this season have been truly memorable. His first was a successful defence of his CIMB Malaysia crown, not an easy trick to pull off, his second came in a field comprised solely of 2016 winners on the PGA TOUR at the Tournament of Champions and his third featured a round of 59. His fourth success was his maiden major triumph at the PGA Championship and now he can also boast a first Playoff series victory. In short, his trophy cabinet needs an extension.

It was fitting that Thomas' fifth win of the year came after a battle with his good friend Jordan Spieth, who was playing in the group ahead of him, and it seems inevitable that the two of them will be scrapping down the stretch in an awful lot of big tournaments for years and possibly decades to come.

Could Justin Thomas go on to emulate his great friend by becoming World No.1 and winning multiple majors? Nothing is certain in golf but what is clear is that he has the game, the necessary ruthlessness and an incredibly stable support network around him willing him on to bigger and better things.
